The Chinese Ambassador to Tonga, HE Liu Weimin presented a donation of $57,244 to the Health Minister Hon. Dr. ‘Ana ‘Akau’ola on Tuesday to help fight the current dengue fever outbreak.
Dr. ‘Akau’ola said the funds will help purchase medical supplies and aid the ongoing response. “We asked for $33,000, and you have given us much more than expected,” she said while thanking the Ambassador.
“We are proud to be able to contribute to your efforts by providing financial assistance for you to purchase some needed aid kits, as well as mosquito repellent and mosquito nets,” said Liu Weimin.
The dengue outbreak was declared a week ago with about 80 confirmed cases at Vaiola hospital so far.
