A dedicated eye care team from the Pacific Partnership Humanitarian Medical Team is offering complimentary eye examinations and prescription glasses at Vaiola Hospital and Mu’a Health Center.
The clinics run daily from 9 am to 4 pm running today until Saturday, according to the Tongan Ministry of Health.
This initiative forms part of the larger Pacific Partnership 2025 mission, a regional humanitarian and disaster-preparedness endeavour involving multinational health and engineering teams. The programme returned to Tonga on 18 June and includes community health efforts in ophthalmology, nursing, nutrition and environmental health, as well as engineering projects across the islands.
Ministry of Health officials urge residents to inform family and friends about the service, calling it “free” and “open” to all.
The outreach is part of longstanding efforts to upgrade local eye-health services, complementing ongoing work by partners such as The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ.
