The UNDP’s Vaka Pasifika Project, funded by the European Union, partnered with the Pacific Islands News Association (PINA) to host the 7th Pacific Media Summit from 20 to 26 September 2024 in Niue. The summit gathered seven journalists and three illustrators from across the Pacific to enhance their skills in reporting on public finance management (PFM).
Fijian Broadcasting Corporation’s Deputy News Manager, Ritika Pratap, emphasized the importance of understanding PFM for promoting transparency and accountability. “The skills and insights gained here have empowered me to tackle these issues more effectively in my work,” she said.
The summit also provided a valuable networking opportunity for media professionals, while illustrators helped make complex PFM topics more relatable. The European Union reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the project, contributing EUR 6 million to its second phase.
The summit is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Pacific media’s role in promoting transparency and good governance.
