Media and communications officers from Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) member nations are attending a three-day workshop in Suva ahead of the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC) meeting from November 28 to December 3.
The training aims to strengthen participants’ skills in covering fisheries policies, fostering media relationships, and engaging the public on critical issues.
Opening the workshop, FFA Deputy Director-General Dr. Pio Manoa emphasized the importance of safeguarding Pacific interests.
“The WCPFC is the regional fisheries management organisation in the region, so the interests of FFA Members must always be safeguarded in the binding rules and decisions of the Commission,” he said.

The event also features Pacific Islands News Association (PINA) representatives, providing a platform for deeper collaboration between fisheries communicators and mainstream media.
The World Bank supports this initiative through the FFA Pacific Islands Regional Oceanscape Program – PROPER.
