Thousands of Pacific workers have boosted their CVs, improved budgeting skills, and prepared for a digital future through Project Ikuna, a training program in Auckland.
Launched by Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, the initiative offers Pacific workers in industries facing automation risks the chance to upskill, as reported by RNZ.
Sione Fononga, operations manager for Foodstuffs North Island, shared how a money management course transformed his finances.
“I was living paycheck to paycheck until I joined the course,” Fononga said. He also highlighted how two team members were able to budget for a car after completing the program.
Nick Hill, CEO of Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, emphasized the program’s impact, stating, “Project Ikuna gives Pacific people more economic choices, equipping them with new skills that can lead to higher-paid jobs.”
Over 360 businesses from various sectors participate in the program, with courses ranging from money management to digital skills. The initiative continues to create economic opportunities, ensuring Pacific workers are future-ready.
