The Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Samiu Vaipulu, announced the appointment of Mr. Semisi Panuve as the Kingdom’s first Israel Honorary Consul during a reception event held last evening marking Israel’s 76th Independence Day.
Mr. Panuve, the former CEO of Tonga Cable Ltd., brings a wealth of leadership experience to his role as Honorary Consul, with his appointment endorsed by Israel’s non-resident ambassador to Tonga, His Excellency Ran Yaakoby, based in Wellington, New Zealand.
The reception was also to farewell Ambassador Yaakoby and his wife, Mrs. Depora where Crown Prince Tupouto’a ‘Ulukalala and Princess Sinaitakala Tuku’aho were the chief guests.
Vaipulu said that this appointment of Mr Panuve is a significant step in enhancing cooperation between Tonga and Israel, reflecting on the diplomatic progress and shared values.
The new position signifies Tonga’s growing diplomatic relationship with Israel and highlights the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening international ties.
