The Legislative Assembly will conclude its 2024 session today with a soft closing ceremony at Parliament House in Nuku’alofa.
Three Nobles of the Realm, Lord Tu’ivakano, Lord Ma’afu, and Lord Nuku, will deliver the address from the Throne.
Lord Ma’afu will deliver the Address from the Throne, representing His Majesty King Tupou VI. This ceremony marks the formal end of the 2024/2025 parliamentary term.
The King’s address is expected to highlight key issues such as government accountability, transparency, private sector engagement, and the ongoing fight against illicit drugs.
In a previous address, His Majesty emphasised the government’s responsibility to its citizens and Parliament, stating, “Government is answerable to the people who elected them into Parliament.”
The soft closing ceremony is a traditional event that signifies the end of a parliamentary session, allowing for reflection on the year’s legislative achievements and setting the stage for future governance.
