The Parliament has referred the 2025 Supplementary Budget to committee after discovering a $2 million discrepancy.
The Legislative Assembly unanimously approved the motion on Tuesday, following the passage of the TOP$31 million Supplementary Appropriation Bill on April 9.
Finance Minister Dr. ‘Aisake Eke announced that the budget would fund key initiatives, including $10 million for road maintenance.
However, Committee Chair Hon. Hu’akavameiliku highlighted a mismatch between the approved amount and government documents, which detail a total of TOP$33 million.
The Public Accounts Standing Committee is now seeking clarification from the Ministry of Finance regarding the $2 million difference and has suggested amending the original 2024/2025 budget estimates.
The Supplementary Appropriation Bill awaits royal assent from His Majesty.
