The Legislative Assembly has formally replied to His Majesty King Tupou VI’s opening address, paving the way for budget deliberations.
During last Friday’s parliamentary session, Lord Tu’i’afitu informed members that the official response to the King’s address at the begining of the 2025–26 session had been submitted to the Palace Office. The response was jointly prepared by Lord Tu’i’afitu, Prime Minister Hon. Dr. ‘Aisake Eke, and Vava’u 14 Representative Hon. Dr. Mo’ale ‘Otunuku.
With this constitutional formality completed, Parliament now turns its attention to the national budget for the 2025–26 financial year.
Parliamentary debates on the Appropriation Bill are scheduled to continue throughout June, with the aim of passing the budget before the new fiscal year begins on July 1.
