The Pacific Islands News Association (PINA) and the region’s premier political body, the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) today (Mon 05 February 2024) inked a revised Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), that formalises collaboration and partnership between the two organisations.
PINA Vice President, Mr. Robert Iroga represented the PINA President, Mr. Kora Nou, who wasn’t able to attend the signing in Suva. Mr. Iroga signed the MOU with the Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum, His Excellency Henry Puna at the Forum Secretariat headquarters in Suva.
The signing also coincided with the celebrations to mark the fourth year of the Teieniwa Vision (Declaration), the regional framework to fight against corruption in the Pacific.
The MOU is a new chapter in the relationship between the two organisations, after almost two decades of collaboration, aimed at effectively communicating the regional agenda set forth by Pacific Leaders – through the channels established to link PIF leadership, to forum leaders and ministers.
The media initiatives have enabled quality reporting and awareness of the geopolitics of the Pacific, for the Pacific media.
Through the MOU, PIF will provide technical advice, training initiatives for journalists at regional ministerial meetings, the annual Pacific Leaders meeting, and when possible, media internships or fellowships for the Pacific media.
