The Prime Minister is in the US this week to secure pledges for a major Pacific resilience fund.
Prime Minister Hon. Dr ‘Aisake Valu Eke, also Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum, is leading a high-level advocacy mission with Secretary General Baron Waqa. The goal is to build financial backing for the Pacific Resilience Facility (PRF), a Pacific-led grant fund aimed at boosting climate resilience without adding debt.

The visit aligns with global meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. It follows the endorsement of the PRF Treaty by Forum Economic Ministers in Tonga in March.
“Following the endorsement of the Treaty for signing by Forum Leaders, this advocacy mission is being held to coincide with the global multilateral meetings,” said Hon. Dr. Eke.
“Our message is simple: the Pacific Islands Forum is serious about the PRF… the time to act is now,” he added.
SG Waqa confirmed the mission’s aim to raise the remaining US$350 million towards the PRF’s US$500 million target by 2026.
“This advocacy mission is about unlocking new capital flows… from transformative partnerships,” he said.
The PRF Treaty will be presented for signing at the Forum Leaders’ Meeting in Solomon Islands in September 2025.
