Prime Minister Hu’akavameiliku has announced his resignation, effective immediately, during a parliamentary session this morning.
The announcement coincided with discussions on a motion of no confidence against his leadership.
The parliament opened by questioning the validity of two signatures attached to the no-confidence motion raised by Deputy PM, Samiu Vaipulu. The allegations submitted as part of the motion were never tabled.
Speaker of Parliament Lord Fakafanua said that the Prime Minister’s resignation would be formally communicated to King Tupou VI. The session was adjourned until later today for further developments.
