Tonga National University (TNU) has unveiled its new School of Tourism and Hospitality campus on Vuna Road, Nuku’alofa.
The opening ceremony, held on Friday, was graced by Her Royal Highness Princess Sālote Mafile’o Pilolevu Tuita.

The campus is housed in a renovated building that formerly served as the Ministry of Education’s office. According to a TNU statement, the facility now provides modern teaching and learning spaces for the School of Tourism and Hospitality.

With over 200 students enrolled across six certificate, three diploma, and two degree programs, the school boasts a predominantly female student body, with women making up 89% of the enrollment. Classes are conducted from Monday to Friday, spanning 9.00am to 9.00pm, accommodating both full-time and part-time students.

In her address, Princess Pilolevu emphasized the significance of tourism as Tonga’s leading income earner and highlights the necessity of supporting and equipping the sector.

She also highlighted the critical role of customer service in the tourism industry, urging students and professionals to maintain personal hygiene, ensure a neat and presentable appearance, manage and control their attitude and workplace behaviour, uphold Christian values, adopt Tonga’s four core values, and practise good etiquette.
