The Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Forests (MAFF) has announced new restrictions following the detection of bird flu in three countries that supply poultry to Tonga: the United States, Australia, and New Zealand.
To protect local bird populations, passengers from these countries are prohibited from bringing raw chicken, turkey, duck, or fresh eggs into Tonga.
The ban also applies to frozen poultry products transported in container freezers.
Businesses importing poultry must consult the Quarantine Department for guidance before proceeding with shipments.

Cooked poultry products, however, remain permitted.
The ministry emphasized the importance of the measures to safeguard Tonga’s avian health and food security.
The government urged compliance with the new regulations to prevent the spread of avian influenza.
Further updates will be provided as officials continue to monitor the situation.
