Seven individuals fell ill after consuming cocktails at the Warwick Resort in Fiji, the Ministry of Health confirmed. Four Australians, one American, and two foreign residents were hospitalized with nausea, vomiting, and neurological symptoms.
The group, aged 18 to 56, was initially treated at Sigatoka Hospital before two were transferred to Lautoka Hospital due to the severity of their condition.
The Ministry said, “The cocktail was prepared at a bar at the resort,” sparking concerns about drink safety.
Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade issued a travel advisory urging Australians to remain vigilant about “potential risks around drink spiking and methanol poisoning through consuming alcoholic drinks.”
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the cause of the illnesses.
The Ministry has not yet disclosed further details about the source of contamination or the status of the affected individuals.
