From September 25th to 26th, a delegation from the Shandong Overseas Friendship Association, led by President Mr. Xu Hairong, visited Tonga to drive stronger ties between the two regions. The delegation engaged in discussions with key Tongan officials, including Distaquiane Tuihalamaka, the CEO of the Ministry of Trade and Economic Development (MTED), and Lord Fohe, the Minister of Agriculture, Food Security, and Fisheries.
During these meetings, both sides exchanged views on enhancing cooperation in trade, economic development, agriculture, and fisheries. The discussions emphasized the potential for collaborative projects that could benefit both nations.
The delegation also met with members of the Tonga China Friendship Association and presented Household Photovoltaic Power Generation equipment, a donation from the China-Pacific Island Countries Climate Action Cooperation Center. This gesture symbolizes a commitment to promoting cooperation in education, renewable energy, and green transition efforts.
The Shandong delegation also took the opportunity to greet the Chinese Medical Team currently serving in Tonga, which is also from Shandong province. The visit was attended by H.E. Ambassador Liu Weimin, highlighting the diplomatic efforts to strengthen relations between China and Tonga.
