A Chinese medical team has provided free services yesterday at the Mu’a Health Centre in Tongatapu.
The Silk Road Ark medical team visited Mu’a Health Centre, offering complimentary check-ups and treatment, including care for a sprained ankle and heart discomfort patent.

Earlier, in 2018, Mr Siosaia Ve’ehala had successful lumbar spine surgery during the Peace Ark ship’s visit. He returned this time to the Chinese medical staff this time for urgent heart symptoms and additional injuries.
According to a Chinese embassy statement, “Seeing our Tongan friends leave with smiles truly made the day!” The embassy added that “One story, two healings, spanning seven years, crossing vast oceans. A vivid testament to the friendship and trust between our two countries.”

The current mission is part of the hospital ship Silk Road Ark’s broader deployment, Mission Harmony-2025, which includes medical outreach throughout Tongatapu and other Pacific islands.
Mu’a Health Centre is a primary public facility on Tongatapu. A recent Health Facility Readiness assessment confirms it offers basic medical services but faces challenges in staffing and specialist availability.

Past visits by Chinese-medical teams and hospital ships have brought specialised care to Tonga, helping address heart disease, surgery needs and other treatments not always available locally.
This latest visit strengthens long-standing health cooperation between Tonga and China.
