The University of the South Pacific (USP) has appointed Siosiua Tuitalukua Tupou Utoikamanu as its Pro-Chancellor and Chair of Council.
The announcement was made during USP’s 98th Council meeting on 25 November 2024 in Rarotonga, Cook Islands.
His three-year term will run from 27 November 2024 to 26 November 2027.
Emeritus Professor Pat Walsh, Acting Pro-Chancellor and Chair of Council, said, “The University of the South Pacific is extremely fortunate and honoured that such a renowned international development professional with impeccable credentials is assuming the role of Pro-Chancellor and Chair of Council as the University embarks into the next phase of its development.”
Mr. Utoikamanu, an expert in public financial management and governance, boasts over 40 years of experience across Pacific nations.
An alumnus of USP, he also served as Director of the Pacific Islands Centre for Public Administration from 2012 to 2015.
His academic qualifications span universities in the UK and New Zealand.
