American rapper and actor Snoop Dogg is set to be one of the final torchbearers for the Olympic flame before the Opening Ceremony of the Paris 2024 Games on Friday. Snoop Dogg, born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., hails from Los Angeles, the host city for the 2028 Olympics.
Saint-Denis Mayor Mathieu Hanotin announced that Snoop Dogg, 52, will carry the torch through the neighborhood of Saint-Denis, marking the flame’s final journey before reaching the Eiffel Tower. Snoop Dogg shared his excitement by tweeting a photo of himself in Paris with the caption: “U ready? Paris 2024 Olympics ya digggg.”
Snoop Dogg will also contribute to NBCUniversal’s coverage of the Games, providing regular reports and exploring Paris’s iconic landmarks for NBC and Peacock’s prime time shows. In a statement from December, he expressed his enthusiasm: “I grew up watching the Olympics and am thrilled to see the incredible athletes bring their A-game to Paris. It’s a celebration of skill, dedication, and the pursuit of greatness.”
Earlier this month, Snoop Dogg participated in the US Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon, where he ran a 200-meter exhibition race in 34.44 seconds.
In Saint-Denis, Snoop Dogg will be joined by other notable torchbearers, including French actress Laetitia Casta and French rapper MC Solaar. The Olympic torch, which began its journey in May, has been carried by a variety of prominent figures such as former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, Formula One driver Charles Leclerc, and actress Halle Berry.
