The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Tonga, Lord Fakafanua, welcomed the President of the South Australian Legislative Council, Hon. Terry Stephens, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Leon Bignell, and the Clerk of the House of Assembly, Rick Crump, to the Tongan Parliament’s Chamber during a visit to Tonga last week.
As Tonga’s Twin Parliament, South Australia’s Parliament has played a significant role in supporting the country’s legislative framework, offering training programs for staff and Members of Parliament and providing essential equipment.
During their visit, both Hon. Terry Stephens and Hon. Leon Bignell rang the bell to notify members that the House would resume its Thursday afternoon session at 2:00 pm. They were seated alongside Lord Fakafanua in the Parliament Chamber as they were introduced.
The visiting delegation later discussed with Lord Fakafanua and Deputy Speaker, Lord Tu’iha’angana expanding avenues for further support and deepening cooperation between the two legislative bodies.
