Three people were killed in a car accident in India on Sunday after following directions from Google Maps, according to police reports.
The vehicle, en route from Noida to Faridpur for a wedding, plunged off an unfinished bridge that lacked barriers or warning signs.
The victims, brothers Nitin and Ajit, both 30, and Amit, 40, were found by locals after the accident. The bridge had been damaged by floods and was undergoing repairs.
Four engineers have been detained in connection with the incident, and a Google Maps representative is also under investigation, according to the PTI news agency.
A Google spokesperson offered condolences, stating, “Our deepest sympathies go out to the families. We’re working closely with the authorities and providing our support to investigate the issue.”
Local authorities have ordered inspections of all roads and bridges in the region to prevent similar tragedies.
