The Acting Prime Minister Hon. Samiu Kuita Vaipulu met with experts from the China-aid Agro-Tech Cooperation Project Phase VI last week, marking the conclusion of the three-year initiative. The meeting, attended by H.E. Mr. Liu Weimin, Ambassador of China to Tonga, and Wu Yirong, First Secretary of the Chinese Embassy, celebrated the project’s achievements.
Hon. Vaipulu thanked the Chinese government and agricultural experts for their contributions to Tonga’s agricultural development. He highlighted the project’s success in pig breeding, poultry breeding, and vegetable cultivation, which have been well-received by the local community and are expected to boost Tonga’s agricultural exports.
Ambassador Liu acknowledged the experts’ professionalism and emphasised China’s commitment to furthering agricultural cooperation with Tonga. He said that agriculture is a priority sector for Tonga’s development and that look forward to the upcoming Phase VII experts who will arrive later this year.
