Toloa (or Tupou College) came from behind to close off the four-day inter-college sports competition as champions for 2021. They ended day 4 and the completion of the 95th sports competition with 35 gold medals, 23 silver, and 11 bronze, for a total of 69 medals.
They won 20 gold medals more than ‘Apifo’ou College at second place.
Sione Taufe’ulungaki of Toloa brought in 7 gold medals, the largest haul of gold by a single athlete in the competition.
Following Toloa at second place was a brave effort by ‘Apifo’ou College with 15 golds, 24 silver, and 17 bronze, for a total of 56 medals. ‘Apifo’ou has been leading in medal haul up to the third day before being taken over by Toloa.
Listed in accordance to the number of gold medals won, ‘Atele came third with 14 golds, 12 silvers, and 15 bronze, for a total of 41 medals.
Tonga High School was listed fourth with 12 gold medals, 18 silver, and 10 bronze, for a total of 40 medals.
Takuilau followed at fifth place with 12 golds, 6 silver, 5 bronze, for a total of 23 medals.
Following Takuilau, was Liahona High School with 11 gold medals, 17 silver, and 20 bronze, for a total of 48 medals.
Tailulu was at seventh place with 7 gold medals, three silver, and 5 bronze, for a total of 15 medals.
Queen Salote College won 6 gold medals, 11 silver, and 10 bronze for a total of 27 medals to be in eighth place.
At ninth place was Tonga Side School with 3 golds, 7 silver, and 4 bronze, for a total of 14 medals.
Lavengamalie was at 10th place with 3 golds, 4 silver, and 6 bronze, for a total of 13 medals..
Eleventh place went to ‘Eua Secondary Schools, with 2 golds, 7 silver, and 7 bronze, for a total of 16.
Government Middle Schools brought in 1 gold and 3 bronze; a total of 4 medals.
St. Andrews was in 13th place with 1 gold and 3 bronze; a total of 4 medals.
FWC Middle Schools came 14th with 1 silver and 1 bronze for a total of 2 medals.
Tupou High School was in last place with 3 bronze medals.
In his closing speech, Education Minister Hu’akavameiliku said he was pleased with this year’s sports as the students had fun, were orderly, and there was peaceful interaction among all the competitors.
