Tonga’s new Prime Minister, ‘Aisake Eke, is expected to announce his Cabinet line-up next week after a secret ballot vote saw 16 Members of Parliament elect him on Christmas Eve.
Sources indicate that names for the Cabinet are currently being proposed before the final list is sent to King Tupou VI for royal consent.
Twelve MPs are expected to be appointed as Cabinet Ministers, with at least two nobles likely to feature in the line-up.
Key positions, including those for the Ministry of Lands, Foreign Affairs, and Defence—traditionally held by royal representatives—remain vacant.
The new Cabinet appointments are expected to mark a significant step in Eke’s leadership, with high-level decisions pending on the ministers who will fill these important roles.
