Tonga joined 56 nations in celebrating Commonwealth Day under the theme “Together We Thrive.” yesterday. The day emphasizes unity and cooperation among member countries.
British High Commissioner to Tonga, His Excellency Mr. Philip Malone hosted an afternoon tea to mark the occasion. The event was graced by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Tupouto‘a ‘Ulukalala, symbolizing Tonga’s commitment to the Commonwealth’s shared values.
In his message for the day, His Majesty King Charles III, Head of the Commonwealth, said: “In these uncertain times, where it is all too easy to believe that our differences are problems instead of a source of strength and an opportunity for learning, the Commonwealth’s remarkable collection of nations and peoples come together in the spirit of support and, crucially, friendship…
“The Commonwealth’s ability to bring together people from all over the world has stood the test of time and remains as ever-important today,” KIng Charles added.
Tonga’s participation highlighted its pride in being part of the Commonwealth family—a community of shared values and enduring partnerships. The nation’s ties with fellow member countries, especially the United Kingdom, continue to support progress in areas like education, climate action, and youth development.
