King Tupou VI and Queen Nanasipau‘u attended Tonga College’s 142nd anniversary celebration last Saturday at the Lopaukamea Hall at ‘Atele, a milestone event recognizing significant progress in the school’s development.
The service, led by Reverend Dr. Havea, President of the Free Wesleyan Church, highlighted the completion of key projects valued at $13.25 million.

The completed facilities include two dormitories, a dining hall, and a health clinic, which Their Majesties toured during their visit amid the heavy rain on Saturday afternoon.
The two dormitories, accommodating 80 students each, were funded by the school community, while the remaining four dormitories will be financed by the government.

The financing of the broader projects saw substantial contributions from ex-students, alongside a $4 million grant from the World Bank in partnership with the Australian government.

Both former and current students welcomed the royal presence, emphasising the significance of the event in honouring the school’s history and ongoing commitment to educational excellence.
