Seven days after the police entered and searched the Tonga Development Bank (TDB) head office in Nuku’alofa, the TDB releases an official statement that it has taken legal action against the police, claiming the search warrant was obtained and used unlawfully.
The bank’s action today was to calm customer and public concerns after the police search of their premise. The bank assured its customers that their investments are still safe.
Since the police search last week, it still remains unclear as to what they were looking for nor detail of the outcome of the search released by either the police or TDB.
The police search was due to TDB allegedly breaching the Banking Act.
