His Majesty’s Government resumed operations yesterday, 6 January 2025, with regular administration continuing across all ministries, departments, and agencies.
The government remains in “caretaker mode,” led by Acting Prime Minister Hon. Samiu Kuita Vaipulu and the current Cabinet. During this period, no new financial commitments or policies will be initiated by any government body.
This interim arrangement will continue until the appointment process for Prime Minister Designate Hon. Dr. ‘Aisake Valu Eke and his Cabinet is finalized. Officials expect the process to conclude within the coming weeks, in accordance with Tonga’s Constitution.
Once completed, the new Cabinet will assume office, and the current ministers’ appointments will be revoked.
These actions align with Tonga’s Constitution, legal framework, and established government directives. Regular government functions will continue uninterrupted during the transition period.
