The Tonga Electoral Commission (TEC) has inaugurated the Elections Disabilities Access Working Group (EDAWG) to enhance electoral accessibility.
In collaboration with the Pacific Community (SPC), TEC formalized their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This agreement reflects a shared commitment to inclusive electoral processes.

The EDAWG’s inaugural meeting introduced strategic initiatives aimed at ensuring that all Tongans, regardless of ability, can participate in elections.
Local organizations, including the Tonga Leitis Association (TLA), have expressed strong support for this initiative. They emphasized the importance of promoting inclusive elections and advancing towards a more accessible future for all voters.

This development aligns with global efforts to uphold the rights of persons with disabilities, as outlined by the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The launch of EDAWG signifies a key step in fostering a democratic process that is both inclusive and representative of Tonga’s diverse population.
