The Tonga National University (TNU) has achieved full registration status from the Tonga National Qualifications and Accreditation Board (TNQAB), Vice-Chancellor Dr. Masasso Paunga announced.
The university received official notification from TNQAB on Wednesday, confirming its authorization to provide education and training in Tonga under Part III, Section 10 of the TNQAB Act.
“This registration opens up a lot of opportunities, not only for further developments of degree level courses and academic research and further collaboration with overseas universities and partners, but also serves to consolidate vocational and technical programs and in meeting the academic needs and challenges of Tonga,” Dr. Paunga said.
TNU held its first graduation last December with over 1000 students awarded various degrees.
Established in January 2023 under the Tonga National University Act of 2021, TNU has four faculties: Education, Arts and Humanities; Business and Public Administration; Nursing and Health Sciences; and Science and Technology.
