On October 17, Tonga’s delegation, led by Lord Tu’ivakano, joined Pacific Island leaders at the Fourth China-Pacific Island Countries Political Leadership Dialogue, themed “Explore the Path to Modernization with High-quality Development,” held at the Museum of the Communist Party of China in Beijing.
Lord Tu’ivakano acknowledged China as a key partner in modernization, emphasising the importance of sustainability in Pacific island nations, particularly given their vulnerability to climate change. He praised China’s advancements in renewable energy and green technology, which could benefit the region.
Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, spoke of China’s support for Pacific unity and self-reliance, affirming China’s commitment to the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.
The delegation also toured the Museum of the Communist Party of China.
