Tonga Police have issued a public notice addressing complaints about the use of firecrackers during the Christmas holiday season.
Authorities said the loud noise from firecrackers affects vulnerable groups, including the elderly, young children, and individuals with heart conditions.
“We urge the public to cooperate and consider the well-being of others during this festive season,” the statement said.
Firecracker use is permitted only until 10 PM nightly, although no specific timeframe has been provided. Police are asking the public to comply with this directive to ensure safety and community well-being.

Tonga Fire and Emergency Services have also released essential fireworks safety tips. They emphasize purchasing from licensed vendors, using fireworks under adult supervision, and keeping water nearby to handle emergencies.
“Set off fireworks in open areas away from homes, dry grass, and flammable materials,” the notice advises. Citizens are reminded to avoid relighting malfunctioning fireworks and to dispose of them safely.
The announcement follows increasing concerns from residents about the disruptive effects of firecrackers.
