Tonga Police have launched their 2025 Annual Commissioned Officers Conference, centring on leadership, mentoring, and coaching.
Commissioner Shane McLennan opened the three-day event at Sea Breeze, Bay of Manumataongo, stressing the importance of unity and continuous improvement. He encouraged officers to “learn from each other, help those who are struggling, and work together as One Team, Same Team”.

The conference theme, “Leadership: Mentoring and Coaching,” aims to strengthen corporate planning, reporting, and communication within the force.
Australian expert Brett McDonald from the Australia Institute of Police Management (AIPM) introduced the GROW model, a framework for coaching that promotes growth and resilience.
McDonald highlighted that mentoring involves sharing experiences to foster growth, while coaching focuses on asking questions to help individuals realise their potential.
Minister of Police Hon. Paula Piveni Piukala addressed attendees, emphasising that policing requires unwavering commitment, especially during challenging times.

The conference shows Tonga Police’s dedication to cultivating a culture of leadership and support, aiming to enhance the organisation’s effectiveness in serving the community.
