Tonga Police have identified the body of a 21-year-old man, Esilani Latu, found dead on Wednesday morning in Nakolo. The case has been classified as a homicide.
Chief Superintendent Saimone Fifita of the Mu’a Police Station said during an interview with Tonga Broadcasting that the deceased had suffered multiple injuries, including wounds consistent with being run over by a vehicle.
However, police have not yet confirmed if this was the cause of death.
Authorities believe the driver of the vehicle, a man from Havelu, has fled the country. Efforts are ongoing to locate the suspect.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as they continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Latu’s death.
This incident highlights concerns over public safety and accountability as the search for justice continues.
