Tonga’s Minister of Police, Hon. Paula Piveni Piukala, called for honesty and a firm approach to tackling illicit drugs during a district parade meeting at the Tonga Police Headquarters on Monday.
The event, attended by the Commissioner of Police Shane McLennan, senior officers, and representatives from the Tonga-New Zealand Policing Program (TNZPP) and Tonga-Australia Policing Partnership (TAPP), was live-streamed for officers in Vavaʻu, Haʻapai, and ʻEua.
“A lie may take care of the present, but it has no future,” Piukala said, urging officers to uphold integrity in their duties. “Choose honesty for a better tomorrow.”
He reaffirmed his commitment to fighting the country’s drug problem and emphasized that law enforcement plays a crucial role in maintaining peace.

Commissioner McLennan acknowledged the ongoing efforts to combat drugs, transnational crime, and cybercrime, noting that these challenges require a coordinated response.
“The role of law enforcement is vital to ensuring the Kingdom thrives,” he said.
The meeting reinforced Tonga Police’s mission to create a safer community through strong leadership and cooperation with international policing partners.
