Officers from Tonga Police left for Samoa, last weekend as part of their preparation for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2024.
Tonga Police officers will play a key role in providing Close Personal Protection for dignitaries, safeguarding leaders and officials from potential threats during meetings and events.
According to a public statement by Tonga Police, this mission demands rigorous training, coordination, and readiness. The collaboration with Samoa Police also includes intelligence sharing and resource exchange, emphasizing the interdependence of security operations among Pacific nations.
This mission reflects a strong commitment among Pacific Island nations to ensure the success and security for CHOGM, setting a standard for regional solidarity in the face of global challenges.
The CHOGM will be held in Apia, Samoa from 21-26 October. It will be the first CHOGM in a Pacific Small Island Developing State, where leaders will address global economic, environmental, and security challenges, focusing on resilience, trade, and empowering the Commonwealth’s youth.
