The Tonga Police Women’s Advisory Network (TPWAN) started its three-day annual conference yesterday at the Tonga Police College.
This year’s theme, “Women in Unity, United in Policing,” calls for solidarity among women in law enforcement.
Deputy Australian High Commissioner Erin Gleeson attended as the guest of honour, alongside Commissioner of Police Authorised Delegate Tevita Vailea and representatives from the Tonga New Zealand Policing Programme and Tonga Australia Policing Partnership.
Deputy Commissioner and TPWAN Chair, Sokopeti K. Faletau, highlighted the network’s achievements, including an increase in internal workshops and 10 women promoted through the ranks.

“Stand hand in hand to support and encourage each other as together our goals can be achieved,” she said.
Workshops over the first two days will focus on empowering women from outer islands who missed training opportunities.
Gleeson reflected on the global journey toward gender equality, noting, “Our work is to make it easier for the next generation to outdo us.”
