Tonga Power Limited (TPL) is set to launch an upgraded phone system next Monday, February 10, aiming to enhance customer service efficiency.
A key feature of this upgrade is the introduction of a toll-free contact number, 0800-123, exclusively for customers in Tongatapu. This initiative allows direct connection to relevant departments without incurring call charges.
For international customers, TPL has established a new contact number, +676 6850000, with standard call rates applicable.
The upgraded phone system offers a streamlined menu with the following options:
- Press 1: Power Bills – For inquiries related to bills, statements, payments, and charge clarifications.
- Press 2: New Connections – Assistance with applying for new electricity connections.
- Press 3: Disconnection/Reconnection – Requests for power disconnection and reconnection services.
- Press 4: Faults (Available 24/7) – Reporting power outages, voltage issues, damaged power lines, faulty streetlights, or other electrical hazards. Urgent safety concerns should also be reported to emergency services.
- Press 5: Repeat Options – Replay the menu options.
- Press 0 or stay on the line: Reception & General Inquiries – For all other inquiries or to speak with a customer service representative.
“This upgrade is a major step forward in our ongoing efforts to provide seamless and efficient communication for our valued customers,” said Mr. Finau Moa, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Tonga Power Limited.
“By streamlining our phone system, we aim to enhance customer experience, improve response times, and ensure that every caller is directed to the right department as efficiently as possible.”
The new phone system will operate during standard business hours, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with Faults (Option 4) and Disconnection/Reconnection (Option 3) services available 24/7 to support urgent issues.
Existing contact numbers, including emergency numbers 944 and 28344, will remain active during the transition to the new toll-free number.
In an effort to reduce electricity tariff pressure on consumers, the new government announced an increase in its electricity subsidy for residential users starting this month.
