Over 500 student leaders from Tongatapu gathered for the National Prefects Retreat.
The Truancy, Emergency & Safety Department under the Ministry of Education & Training hosted a National Prefects Retreat at the Tonga National Stadium in Nuku’alofa.
Approximately 500 prefects from schools across the island, along with teachers, principals, mentors, and special guests, attended this empowering gathering of young leaders.
The event was officially opened by the Hon. Minister of Education, Hon. ‘Uhelameilangi Fasi, who highlighted the important role prefects play in their schools and communities. He encouraged them with a simple yet powerful message: “Smile all the time, everywhere you may be. Be fast to smile!”
This initiative was made possible with financial support from the ANCP program (SCA), ensuring that student leaders receive the guidance and knowledge they need.
The SCA team took the opportunity to present on Child Protection & Anti-Bullying, equipping prefects with the awareness and skills to foster safe and supportive school environments.
