Tonga has secured a US$2.2 million grant to enhance its education system.
The System Transformation Grant (STG), provided by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and administered by Save the Children Australia (SCA), will be implemented by the Ministry of Education and Training over the next four years.

This initiative aims to improve literacy and student well-being across the country.
The funding will support key education initiatives, including the development of classroom libraries and a national reading in-service program. Home reading journals will be introduced to encourage literacy at home, while school counsellors will be appointed to support student well-being.
These efforts are designed to create a stronger, more inclusive learning environment for Tongan students.
The official signing ceremony was attended by government and education officials, including Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Hon. ‘Aisake Eke, Minister of Education and Training Hon. ‘Uhilameilangi Fasi, and Pacific Regional Operations Director of Save the Children Australia, Mrs. Elke Puritau.
