Tonga will join other Pacific nations at the Asia Pacific Youth Touch Cup (APYTC) from May 15 to 17, 2025, hosted at Kayo Stadium in Redcliffe, Queensland. The event, organized by Touch Football Australia (TFA) and the Federation of International Touch (FIT), promises to showcase the region’s brightest young talent.
Launched in 2023, the APYTC highlights teams from across the Pacific, including Tonga, Samoa, and Papua New Guinea, alongside Australia and New Zealand. The competition will feature six divisions across Boys, Girls, and Mixed 18s and 20s categories.
TFA General Manager Brad Mitchell emphasized the event’s significance. “The return of the APYTC is fantastic for the continued development of the international game,” he said.
City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery welcomed the opportunity to host the tournament. “Redcliffe will host competitors from across the South Pacific in a thrilling international competition. I wish the upcoming athletes the best of luck,” he said.
The inaugural APYTC saw Australia sweep all divisions, and the green and gold are expected to reignite their rivalry with New Zealand in 2025.
The APYTC is part of an expanded international calendar, with further competitions planned in Europe and Asia later that year.
