Tonga will play a key role in the inaugural NPDL Pacific Island Tournament, hosting the final leg of the groundbreaking event next year, from May 5th to May 10th, 2025.
The tournament, spanning Samoa, American Samoa, and Tonga, is the first multi-island game fishing competition in the Pacific and serves as a qualifier for the prestigious Offshore World Championship in Costa Rica.
The Samoa International Game Fishing Association (SIGFA) announced the series, which begins in Samoa from April 5th to 12th and continues in Pago Pago from April 20th to 26th. Cumulative points from all three legs will crown the overall champions.
“This tournament will be the biggest one yet,” said SIGFA President Vaughan Simpson. “It’s a dream come true and an honour for Samoa to drive the expansion of sustainable game fishing in the Pacific.”
Michelle Brunt, Senior Sales Manager for title sponsor Neptune Pacific Direct Line (NPDL), emphasized the tournament’s broader significance. “This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the incredible talent, culture, and natural beauty of our islands to the world.”
With international teams from Tonga, Fiji, New Zealand, and beyond already committed, the event is set to bring global attention to the region’s vibrant game fishing scene.
