The Ministry of Tourism in Tonga has initiated 2025 with a beach cleanup at Ha’atafu beach.
Led by CEO Viliami Takau, the ministry’s staff joined the Ha’atafu community in collecting plastic waste along the shoreline.
This cleanup aligns with Tonga’s ongoing commitment to keeping its environment pristine, under the theme “Keep Tonga Clean, Green, and Beautiful.”
Ha’atafu Beach, renowned for its white sands and coral reefs, is a popular spot for surfers and tourists.

The area has faced environmental challenges, including damage from a tsunami in 2022 that destroyed the Ha’atafu Beach Resort.
The Ministry aims to raise awareness about the importance of protecting natural resources while involving the local community in maintaining the country’s stunning landscapes.
