A tropical disturbance (TD04F) has formed in Tongan waters, with the potential to bring severe weather to parts of the kingdom in the next 12 to 24 hours, according to Tonga Meteorological Services.
As of 3 a.m., TD04F was located near latitude 16.2 south and longitude 178.3 west, approximately 300 km west-southwest of Niuafo’ou, 485 km west of Niuatoputapu, and 535 km west-northwest of Neiafu. The system is moving slowly eastward at 10 km/h.

“Tropical Disturbance Formation Warning has been issued,” the National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO) announced, adding that the system could bring heavy rain, strong to gale-force winds, and thunderstorms to the Niuas, Vava’u, and Ha’apai island groups.
Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution. “Stay safe and prepared,” NDRMO advised, emphasizing the need to follow official updates closely.
The Tonga Tropical Cyclone Warning Center has been activated, and residents are advised to secure property, avoid unnecessary travel, and prepare for potential power outages.
