The Director of the University of the South Pacific (USP) Tonga campus, Dr. Robin Havea, has confirmed to media that student studies remain unaffected by the recent staff strike at the main Laucala campus in Fiji.
Despite the disruption, students at the Tonga campus are preparing for their semester exams next month without interruption.
The protest, led by the Association of University of the South Pacific Staff and the University of the South Pacific Staff Union, calls for Ahluwalia’s resignation and the reinstatement of Dr. Tamara Osborne-Naikatini.
The unions accuse the Vice Chancellor of poor leadership and say the Special Council’s response has been inadequate, failing to address the core issues. The unions demand an independent investigation into Ahluwalia’s leadership, claiming the process has been deliberately delayed.
Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has instructed Education Minister Aseri Radrodro to convene an urgent meeting of the USP Council to address the concerns raised by the striking staff about Vice Chancellor Professor Pal Ahluwalia who is currently in Samoa for CHOGM.
The strike lasted four days before teaching resumed, according to Fiji media.
Meanwhile, students at the Tonga campus continue their studies as normal, with no delays anticipated for their academic schedules.
