The Chinese Embassy in Tonga hosted a reception on 15 November for 91 Tongan athletes set to train in China under the China-Tonga Sports Technical Assistance program.
The event, held in Nuku’alofa, was attended by Acting Prime Minister Hon. Samiu Vaipulu, Chinese Ambassador Liu Weimin, and Acting CEO of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Onetoto Anisi.

Ambassador Liu encouraged the athletes to “train hard and improve their capability” to enhance sports development in Tonga and strengthen China-Tonga cooperation.
Hon. Samiu Vaipulu expressed gratitude for China’s “long-term strong support for Tonga sports” and highlighted Tonga’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation, enhancing cultural exchanges, and fostering stronger ties between the nations.

The training program highlights the growing partnership between China and Tonga in sports and cultural collaboration.
This initiative aims to advance Tonga’s athletic standards while promoting mutual friendship.
