The Ministry of Trade and Economic Development (MTED) emphasized the importance of trademarks and designs in protecting businesses from potential misuse and strengthening their market position.
A training session, held this week in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Japan Patent Office (JPO), focused on managing and safeguarding intellectual property.
Twenty manufacturing businesses participated, deepening their knowledge of trademarks and designs.
“Every business owner must understand the importance of differentiating their product or service… and to register it to ensure legal protection,” the MTED said in a statement.

Participants highlighted the significance of branding, particularly in the creative and design industries, and received support in establishing their own trademarks.
The session was led by Mark Robert Dy, an Australian intellectual property consultant.
The Intellectual Property Office of Tonga (IP Tonga) is available to assist businesses with intellectual property inquiries.
