Seven firefighters from Tonga Fire & Emergency Services participated in the Belt and Road Emergency Rescue Exercise for Pacific Island Countries in Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province, on November 24, 2024.
The team excelled in an earthquake simulation exercise designed to enhance international cooperation in disaster response.
Assistant Fire Commander Christopher Baker represented Tonga at a senior official seminar, sharing insights into the nation’s disaster experiences and emergency management strategies.
“This event highlights the importance of collaboration to strengthen disaster preparedness,” Baker said.
The exercise brought together Pacific Island nations and China to address the growing challenges posed by frequent and unpredictable disasters.
Organizers expressed hopes for enhanced cooperation between Tonga and China in disaster resilience efforts.
