Mele Prescott, a high school student from Niuatoputapu, is in Sydney for a two-week vocal training program at the Gondwana National Choirs School, supported by the Australian High Commission in Tonga.
The trip follows a viral moment last year, when a video of Mele and her Niuatoputapu High School peers performing a song received nearly 1 million views across the region.
“We’re thrilled to support Mele’s journey,” said the Australian High Commission.
Upon her arrival in Sydney, Mele was welcomed by the Hon. Consul for Tonga to Australia, Louise Waterhouse, and Deputy High Commissioner Erin Gleeson.
This opportunity is part of Australia’s support for young Tongan talent, offering Mele a chance to further her skills and make lasting memories in the big city.
