At Auckland’s ASB Polyfest, Siosiana Maile is turning her policing aspirations into community action.
Originally from Tonga, Maile is training at MSL Training in Manukau to join the police force. She and her team are volunteering at Polyfest to assist students and engage with the community. “I’m here with my team, we’re part of the future police officers,” Maile said.
“Polyfest has asked us to volunteer to help them [school students] around and build our portfolio with the community so we can experience how things are on the job when we get recruited.”
Maile’s passion for policing stems from a desire to effect positive change and honor her father. “When I was in primary school, I’ve always wanted to make a difference,” she said.
“Another reason was because of my father. I wanted to make him proud and the rest of my family because I see myself as a kind person. I love giving a hand to anyone at all that needs help.”
While Maile hasn’t performed at Polyfest, she appreciates its cultural significance. “I’m always supportive. I love the environment. Seeing different cultures, different faces from different backgrounds, it really hits the heart,” she said.
